sounds of autumn

most people love fall for its sights and flavors -- the brightly-colored trees, pumpkins in the field and fresh vegetable soup with warm apple crisp. i love all of that and more but this week i've been enamored with the sounds of approaching fall. driving with my windows down the wind makes a wonderful rustling sound thru the crispening corn. we've heard 3 large v's of geese fly over the house in the evening, their honks resounding over the roof and their wings makes a soft whoofing. chattering children on their way to the bus stop are soon followed by the screech of the school bus brakes and the creak of the opening door. sounds carry father and clearer on the breezes of the cooler air and my heart sings along with the crickets and cicadas as the sun sets.

i've had a rather rough summer, feeling run down, depressed and just completely out of sorts. hubby would describe me with 2 words -- grumpy and emotional. i confess that it's all true. i go the dr. on wednesday to get the results of some blood work i had taken last week. although i'm not 100% i have felt better with the cooler weather. i call it getting my fall fix -- the best medicine ever.

It's refreshing to think of the autumn as sounds, and not colors and light. I love the fall too, and the sounds you describe beautifully.

I'm terribly sorry you have had a rough summer. I do hope it was a temporary condition, and that the remedy of autumn sounds and visuals will soothe you on and on.

I hope all the blood work comes back within normal limits, Julie. I've had a rough summer, too, not because of the weather. As always, San Francisco has had pretty mild temperatures with only a few really hot days. This being unemployed for 18 months now has really impacted my financial well being and I feel so useless and bereft without my role as a forensic nurse. I am really having major problems trying to meet my financial obligations and I know I am depressed. I miss being able to travel, that's for sure, and I keep getting slammed by one calamity after another. My faith is truly shaken.

Thank you for stopping by my blog and taking the time to leave a comment. Your corn shot reminds me of my "ant" eye view-very nice. I love watching geese fly over in the V formation, have not seen it in years I miss it.

I hope you got a good report from your doctor. Cool fresh air makes me feel 100% better too. It's not cool here yet, but the intense heat of the summer has subsided.

After the heat of the summer, we are enjoying cooler weather here in Connecticut. Our heat even snapped on last night and we had a fire one evening! Days are so pleasant with a little breeze. I hope the autumn continues to lift your spirits!

Oh, Julie, I do hope you are feeling better. I am really depressed. Am having to move out of the house I've rented for ten years. Being with employment now for eighteen months and living on only social security and a half time pension have taken its toll. I am selling most of my belongings and preparing for a rather dismal future, I fear, as my 66th birthday approaches in two weeks.
