laugh WITH me

time for some fun, ladies!! note the title of this post is laugh WITH me which is different than laughing AT me. oh, believe me, i have no trouble at all laughing at myself but i hope you'll all feel a bit of empathy for this old gal as she pokes fun at herself!! the above photo was taken during a work luncheon to honor the last day with our spring intern. i've cropped it so i'm the only one visible. notice anything unusual about me? notice how i'm clutching my purse like one of those old ladies on sitcoms? you know the one. she sits grasping her purse in her lap, in constant fear of having some random stranger whiz by and steal her purse. when i first saw this photo i thought "omg, i'm THAT old lady!!!"!!!!! next thing you know i won't be able to stay out after dark or drive myself to the grocery. hee hee this totally cracked me up and my co-worker barb and i are still laughing about it.

ok, so now you're all talking to yourselves, saying "what in the world is she doing??" is she exercising in the back yard? nope. is she trying to fly? definitely not. is she waving down the neighborhood ice cream trolley? good guess (i love ice cream) but no again! here's the story on this series of hilarious self-portraits!! the morning after i bought my new nikon bill and i were having coffee in the back yard. he was playing with it and trying to test the rapid burst to see how many pictures it would take and how fast. he suggested i jump up and move around in the back yard so he could snap a few shots. there are about 20 of these ridiculous photos. funny how bill had this wickedly sly look on his face the whole time he was shooting. i'm sure this was quite funny in person.

so there you have it, folks . . . proof of my aging dorkiness!! i've always been a dork; i suspicion it is much less cute at this age. oh, well! i'm still young at heart!

Oh Julie, this is too funny. I know exactly what you mean about the purse in the lap. Kind of like Edith Bunker. You don't look like her though. And the "burst" photos look like you're doing Tai Chi with an attitude. You have a new camera? I'm jealous.
Thanks for your comment on my blog. It would be fun to get together to take photos. Where do you live?

The funniest part is how dead serious you look, while waving your arms wildly about! :D

haha cute. At least you are having fun. :) Miss you.

I think you look cute. I have developed a habit of holding my purse like that too. I am old and it's okay. I would rather be old than dead. With my arthritis I have to hobble along now. Does that mean I'm a big hobbit? I am just choosing to embrace my age and I just pray I can keep my mind...what I have left of it. :)

I thought you were either dancing or jumping on a trampoline! I think that would have been fun too

oh & I too clutch my purse like that sometimes, guess that means I'm a dork too, suppose us dorks should stick together & I like that you're still able to laugh at yourself

I thought you were doing tai chi! If it's any comfort, I'm a purse clutcher too.

hee hee....love the photo of you with the purse! it reminds me of ruth buzzi on the old "laugh-in" show (when she would play the old lady wearing the hair net and hit everyone with her purse!). :)

Laughing and being dorky never goes out of style :) I do it as often as I can.
Touch my purse and you draw back a nub-lol!

Hi Julie
Have just read your reassuring comment on Dog Daisy Chains re Etsy - having recently signed up - what you had to say was of interest to me, too. Have 'hearted' your lovely shop. Best wishes. Lesley

I must admit, the purse photo is funny! You must have a photo 'check' periodically for aging symptoms!!!!! I should start it too.

You're too funny Julie! The first picture did have a little bit of a "Golden Girls" feel to it, lol.

Just be happy you have a husband who can work the camera. We have no pictures of me from any family functions or vacations because my husband doesn't know how to "work" the camera. When I'm gone people will ask my kids, "Did you even have a mom?"

Thanks for the laugh!

You know, hubby and I did the same thing when we first got our Nikon, so I'm right there with you. Aren't privacy fences wonderful?

Love it! How fun!!! We should all (pretend to test our cameras and) have a backyard dance break!!!

I think I've been clutching my purse like that since I was about 38! Love the more playful pics too.

thank you for the chuckle julie. i, too, am an aging dork, and darn proud of it! :-)

OK, so now you've become a CRAZY Bag-Clutching Lady. You're certifiable now. I think the purse clutching is simply a female habit. I wish we had all those nice pockets in our clothes that men have because I'd like to lose the purse habit altogether. Hate them.

I think I was just holding my purse like that tonight. It's sort of like hugging a teddy bear for grown women. When I sit on the sofa I usually hug a pillow. Put me on the life long dork list.

Hey Julie looks to me like your bag was an extension of the table and you are just resting your hands on it!! Well, maybe not!! :) :) Isn't aging a strange thing?? I look at pictures of myself and say, who the heck (but not heck) is that!!!! Young at heart is true - we do not age inside as fast as we do on the outside!!!

I bet your husband had a blast taking those!!!

Hi Julie, visiting your blog sure put a smile on my face and in my heart. :) Laughing with you... too funny! More power to you... may your joyful spirit, ability to laugh at oneself, spread throughout the world! You're definitely someone I'd like to meet and have many laughs over coffee. :)
