after a long day of work i usually find myself wandering around the house or yard snapping photos. then i run to the art room to view and alter to my heart's content. i am so amazed at how much time can just flitter away while i putter like this. yesterday i got home around 5:40 and bill got home around 7:40. i had spent all of that time just playing around and could not think of one productive thing that i had accomplished. and then i wonder -- should i feel guilty about this? yes, i need to pay a few bills. and yes, there is dust on my furniture. i bought 2 small pots of woody thyme over 2 weeks ago and they are still in the pots, patiently waiting to be placed in their new home in the front flower bed. presley needs a haircut and a bath. but, still the lure of being creative is too strong for me to resist. i've become a pro at rationalization. i work hard all day long, i deserve to play in the evening. we rarely have company so who cares if my house needs a little sprucing up? i fear my passion is becoming all-consuming. is this how drug users feel? hee hee
so for those of you who understand this lure to be creative, i leave you with a few photos showing the ways i love to thoroughly waste time. enjoy wasting time with me??!!

Julie....you're not alone.
I waste all the time I can get my hands on...lol
I like to think it's not a waste at all :)
I just LOVE the photo with the glass.
Being creative is NEVer a waste of time. In fact, I'm a firm believer that puttering fuels creativity! :D
The one thing about chores...they will wait for you always! ha-ha!
I totally know how it is to get lost in the creative process. Being in the flow is the best excuse of all for ignoring the dusting. I love the second photo.
You have your priorities completely in order. Make more art, dust less, pay bills when you must. It's wonderful when you enjoy the process -- and it shows in all that you create.
Oh, that's me!! There are so many things I should be doing but I just can't put..the...yarn...down! Can't do it. "Creativity is a drug I cannot live without." Cecil B. DeMille
This is so me! I do the same thing and feel the same way. My bathrooms have been waiting days to be cleaned and dusting? What is dusting? I used to feel guilty about that, but now, like you, I feel it is my play time. Heck, I work AND take care of the house, so I deserve a little play time too! (My problem now is that I spend so much time blogging that I have even less creative time.)
Fun pictures!! I totally agree with you. I often wonder how all those minutes... half hours... hours fly by?! Time flies when you are having fun I guess.
I've come to believe that wasting time is the best use of time! I find I have more beautiful photographs when I take time with the world around me. When I"m in a rush... nothing turns out the way I want!
thanks, everyone, for your kind encouragement in support of goofing off!! it's 4:30 and I'm leaving work to go take photos and generally have fun!
go creative spirits!!!
You are so much fun! =) And I love your comment below:
" i fear my passion is becoming all-consuming. is this how drug users feel? hee hee"
hahaha
Julie, I am a puttering time waster extraordinaire! I know just how you feel. I chaff at the bit while at work, wishing I was home and doing something creative with my time too. I say hire a maid to clean the house...life is short...be creative!
I agree, being creative is never a waste of time either! I wish I was creative more often than I am!
From someone who doesn't have a creative gene in her body, I say to you, Go Girl!
Besides, couldn't you call creativity your passion?
Enjoy your site!
I think your priorities are exactly in the right order! the dust will just come back anyway. your lovely art is an accomplishment.
i hear ya sister! :-) these are all very fun.
This is how I feel when I'm writing - I can play with the words, twisting them around, looking for a synonym that's better until boom! an hour or two has disappeared. Who cares about clean!
Keep on puttering! Thyme will wait for you.
Have a lovely holiday weekend over there. xx
Ouch- if you try to squish your creativity down, what would become of you?
No matter how much I clean, there is always more to do. The dust always settles again- right where I've just cleaned. Then there is the clutter....
Close your eyes to that and keep creating!
j.
p.s. I had to laugh out loud at your comment to me about my painting- "I need a make-over, I need a make-over"
Love the flower, amazing the colours you can change! Great photos!
Thank you for visiting my blog.
Thought I would write back to you before I go of to snooze land!
Sweet dreams and thank you!
Love your photos!! You are so creative. I feel is great when you enjoy what you do without worrying about what needs to be done like chores, it's never a waste of time when your creating it's the best time. A time to play is wonderful for the spirit. The rest would have to wait!
You have your priorities in check. A time for you is important, the rest always falls into when there's a flow to everything and you have that.
