seriously!!

seriously!! can my hands, face and legs get any drier? i’ve always heard that post menopausal women have dry skin but seriously! when more magazine first came out a few years ago i was humored by the fact that every other page seemed to be an ad for face cream guaranteed to decrease wrinkles and give a youthful glow.  now i’m thinking forget the glow, just let my face bear no resemblance to lucy lizard. over the last year or so i’ve tried at least 4 different face washes that will let my face feel clean yet not dried out. i use olay daily face moisturizer in the morning and olay night cream before bed. i keep two different kinds of hand lotion on my desk at work, a tube in my purse, two by my reading chair and two on my nightstand. my entire body is slathered with neutrogena sesame seed body oil after my shower and i apply neutrogena body butter every other morning before I get dressed. even my bottom (cheeks) are crying out “hey, we need some attention down here, too!!” soon i may have to take out a second mortgage to support my keep-it-supple habit!

and, what’s up with my cuticles??!! i can get a professional manicure and by the next morning my nails will be lined with nasty ridges of dry skin. it makes me feel like some prehistoric reptile has taken up residence in my body. seriously!

looking at all the labels, i see that my current hydrating system includes shea butter, vitamin e, oatmeal, murumuru butter, glycerin, vitamins, anti-oxidants . . . and the list goes on and on. and, it must not be working; hubby winced this morning when i cradled his (face) cheek in my hand. hee hee

don’t even get me started on my feet!! seriously!

You would think with all the creams, lotions and potions available, that all of us ladies "of a certain age" would have flawless skin, as smooth and soft as a baby's bottom. Oh but I can only wish.

I hear you girl. Once I hit 50 it seemed everything started drying out and drying up...my skin, my hair, my eyes, mouth, nose, throat. Keep hoping that someday very soon, they come out with a little pill that really works...or maybe they'll be able to do body transplants ?

Loved your post it is so relevant to so many of us.

Oh yes. I can feel the pain, I can see the scales all right here. I know I bought a liquid soap (Tree Hut shea cream body wash)for my body that has helped there a little. I can tell when I drink more water it helps some. It just sucks getting older.

Julie--you are so funny--I must say that dry skin is not one of the symptoms that I've received from wonderful menopause, but I have all of the rest (love those hot flashes :)

Hi Julie, I am a dried out husk of a woman thanks to the moisturizing robbing menopause, but hey a little white wine soon has the eyes glowing and the skin shining!
OOOPs! must stop using that chenin blanc moisturizer!

I can so relate to this post, I have creams everywhere and I dry up in the winter.

I have the largest collection of body butters on the West Coast, in every flavor and fragrance known to man. My skin slurps it up like the high desert. At least, though I'm 65, I have very few facial wrinkles because I never was a sun bather!!!

I'm not quite that dry, but I keep Neutrogena hand cream in my desk at work. I hate the way paper drys your hands out. And the soap in the bathroom...it does the same thing. As to my dry, unattractive feet...at least while it's winter no one else can see them.

I'm sorry, but this post is incredibly hilarious and cute! Here's to dryness and all the things we do to keep it at bay! =)

I certainly feel your pain on this one. One word of advise...never use those magnifying mirrors for any touch ups!! Holy Moly...there are some things I do NOT need a better look at..lol

I am right there with you. What has happened? I'm starting to think the inexpensive creams are just as good as the pricey ones. They know we are desperate and they are toying with us. If they can put people on the moon, why can't they make a wonderful cream to help us not be so dry. I know there are worse things in the world, but what happened to our young soft skin. It's just sad.
