a 1,000 mile walk on the beach

a writer friend of my writer friend vickie is on a mission to walk 1,000 miles around the perimeter of lake michigan. she starts her trek on monday, march 17th! she will blog about her adventure here and then will write a book about her travels as well. i'm completely enamored with the idea and so looking forward to reading about the people she meets and her thoughts during daily hours of solitude with nature.

it has me wondering what kind of trek i would like to take and blog about. i used to joke that i'd like to travel along the old national road from my hometown of hagerstown, indiana westward searching for the perfect piece of homemade pie. as you know, if you've followed my blog for any time at all, my grandparents owned a restaurant, the kopper kettle, where they served the most delicious made-from-scratch food, including grandma j's homemade pies. does anyone serve authentic homemade pie anymore? i'd sure like the chance to find out!

another idea i have is to travel the back roads of rural america to chronicle and photograph the dying art of drying clothes on an outdoor clothes line. colorful clothes swaying in the sun are a favorite photo subject of mine. there's something nostalgic about seeing the sun glinting off a faded pair of jeans while a shadow playfully dances along on the ground.

maybe one day i'll break loose from convention and go for it! in the meantime, i plan to follow loreen on her 1,000 mile lake walk from the comfort of my blogging chair and silently cheer her courage, fortitude and ambition! i hope you'll join in on the fun!!

How interesting! I've not followed your blog long enough about your grandparents restaurant...neat. I make homemade pies...probably not like theirs though! I used to hang clothes on the line growing up, do you do so now? Our subdivision doesn't allow such but they hang in my kitchen!

our subdivision doesn't allow it either but i cheat sometimes and put my wooden clothes drying rack on the back patio so the clothes can soak up some sunshine! i dry most of my clothing on the rack during cold weather but not towels or sheets. some day i'll live in the country again and get to do whatever i want. hee hee

i'm sure your pies are delicious!!!!

This laundry drying thing seems to have struck a chord! Sometimes I will hang clothes on hangers, and hang them from the limbs of the trees around my patio. There is something special about that fresh air. I remember being under, and smelling the freshly washed laundry, as my mother hung the family wash out on the line.

What a fabulous idea! When the right journey for you comes up, you'll just do it.... I know I am inspired!

I don't think I could live in a place that did not allow me to dry my clothes outside. Yikes! Too much control or the place is too small....

I would love to travel the country in search of the best homemade pie! Wouldn't that be a fun trek! We better walk it just to burn some of those calories! :)
