on the cusp of autumn

i took a leisurely bike ride this evening with my trusty nikon tucked away in a belly bag. a new route called my name, drawing me out onto a country road where the air was cooler, the shadows were deeper and my senses totally awakened. my eyes took in the clusters of roadside queen ann's lace dancing in the mild breeze. my ears heard the friendly chatter of birds hidden in the brush. my face drank in the warmth of the setting sun. new mown hay filled my nose with a fleeting moment of nostalgia. and, my heart whispered summer is waning and we are on the cusp of autumn. drink it all in, every sweet, glorious, tantalizing moment. drink it all in.

What a lovely post Julie. The photos too are so evocative. We've had a lovely summer and it is winding down, but I'm not quite ready to let it go. There's a soft rain here tonight, the first in many weeks and it's lovely, but I still hope for a few more weeks of sunshine and warmth. Enjoy the last days.

The black eyed susans are the only thing blooming in my yard now....a sure sign summer is at it's end!

I miss that something special in the air when the seasons start to change. Thank you for your post, it brings that feeling back to me. It's one of the biggest drawbacks (and one of the biggest benefits depending on how you look at it) of living in Florida...there's no changing of the seasons.

i told myself that this morning... autumn is coming... we have leaves already starting to change colors on our trees out front! I DO love the colors of autumn and the crispness to the air!

Very autumnal day here today after a wonderful sunny day yesterday. Yes - Autumn is stirring and beginning to poke her nose out. Beautiful photos as always. xx

Lovely post...I could easily imagine a ride in the countryside in late afternoon. We are in the center of our summer so that end feeling hasn't taken place yet. Enjoy your weekend!

You went bike riding? It must be much cooler up north were you live!
These are more lovely photos for your walls. I'm kind of glad that summer is nearly over. I like the seasonal changes.

I love this post. I am so ready for fall and winter. Although it's not been nearly as hot as normal down here in the south, it's not cool. I love the cool weather. Again great pics and I love your writing.

I would love to be on the cusp of autumn again. We are on the cusp of spring which can be joyful but often the days can be just as hot as summer. I quail at the thought.

Your bike ride sounds wonderful. I can feel the wind on my face now as I ride down the incline with no hands on the bars....your post takes me right back to the summers of my youth.

It is such a lovely post!! Sun sun is ever so brilliant here I must say. This summer mother nature been weeping quite a lot. But I actually enjoyed it. I do love rain. The heat does get to me like yesterday, the world was on fire, it was so hot.

I love the fall my favorite season. The smell there is something about the smell in that season, is refreshing especially when the leaves change color and begin to fall.

Julie you are amazing with your photos you capture the essence of it all, so beautifully!

I'm feeling the end of summer too Julie. My garden is still beautiful but certain areas are beginning to look a little spent.
I love the photos, especially the barn!
