my empty nest

my empty nest is
overflowing
with creativity
love
ambition
soul-searching
quiet moments
of reflection
frantic moments
of inspiration
courageous moments
of learning
fears faced
battles won
successes celebrated

i am a strong
independent
50-something
woman
who faced
the empty nest
and came out
the other side
happier
stronger
fulfilled

my message
is there doesn't
need to be
anything empty
about the empty nest
it's your choice
decorate it
celebrate it
fill it
any way
that helps you
find the hidden you
just waiting
to be born
into
your empty nest

I love this and sooo wish I had read something like this when my baby first flew the coop. It was such a long and lonely year after before I realized I was mourning nothing and should have been celebrating her independence. Such a strong little gal she is, so kind to self and others; and her mom. Love the pic/art accompanying this poem. Thanks for posting.

Nice!
I took my 17 year old son to pre-register for the University this week. Before long, my house will be empty. He's gone a lot now already, I hope I am preparing both of us!

But my home, will always be full.
Full of the love from him, my family and friends. :)

I love how you put into words your feelings. You are truly a wonderful writer and I love the way you express your feelings. I look forward to reading your blog each and every day Julie. My only son recently moved out into the world. It was so very hard for me...but my empty nest is full too.

I love your perspective on life and living. It is always so clear, so honest, so true.

Wonderful sentiments for those of us who are facing empty nests...you have us almost wanting to boot these slow pokes out into their own space sooner than they plan to leave! My 38-year-old is still at home...though, he helps with the rent and I need help. My youngest is still at home as well and his rent has been nice, too, since I retired. Otherwise, I'll be scrounging for roommates!

Julie - Hi, I see all is well. Since I am out here in Boise spending some time everyday with my pregnant daughter, I have pregnancy on the brain, and I just keep thinking of the girls you collage, and I wonder if you have ever thought of doing a pregnant one? or a series of pregnant ones?

I'm so glad that you have filled your nest with things that you love! I know people who mourn their grown children so that they don't move on and find themselves! My goal is to be so much more like you when my nest is empty! :)

Julie, you have a way with words (just as you do a camera!)...what a beautiful verse to accompany your empty nest digital art.
